I am having a problem with my Maxtor and need your valued help. In the past you have been very helpful. I have tried your technical support in India and find that I cannot understand what the tech is saying. I cannot find the Maxtor (F:). I seemed to have lost it completely. I can install Retrospect Express HD 1.0 successfully, however, when trying to load the hardware, I have a problem. The dialog box appears and says New Hardware Found, Maxtor One Touch ll, Windows is installing the software for your new hardware, the cursor hour glass is shown, New Hardware found [not responding]. I end the task, and just get a completely blue screen and have to reboot to get back into the program. I have removed the program and installed several times and have come up with the same results every time.

Hello Sir,

I decided to use my Maxtor One Touch II firewall and USB on my Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium. I was able to install Retrospect.

To setup restore points I first tried to setup my backups. To do this I opened up Retrospect and chose the Setup function. From there I went to Comprehensive, then to the option to Choose Specific files and folders (Not my entire computer option), then I chose drive letters I wish to backup, then I chose destination (the drive letter that corresponds to the external drive), then chose a schedule. The backups started running, but restore points were not generated.

This is the response I received:

"Normal backup using DirectBackup at 11/23/2007 10:00 AM

To Backup Set RestorePoint2...

-11/23/2007 10:00:00 AM: Copying OS (C:)

Catalog File out of sync with Backup Set "RestorePoint2".

To repair it, use Tools>Repair Catalog>Update existing Catalog File.

11/23/2007 10:02:48 AM: Execution incomplete

Remaining: 75488 files, 33.4 GB

Completed: 0 files, zero KB

Performance: 0.0 MB/minute

Duration: 00:02:48 (00:02:40 idle/loading/preparing)"

The suggestion to repair it, use Tools>Repair Catalog>etc. I could not find.

Please offer suggestions as to how I can obtain a good restore point.

I have 126GB free of 189GB on the external drive. I followed your instructions and opened the external drive letter MAXTOR (F smile.gif and then went to the Retrospect Restore points folder and opened this up. This is what I found: 1.0 By placing the cursor on the folder Retrospect Restore Points (RRP) this is what I read: Date Created: 7/9/2005 2:17 PM, Size: 32.1GB, Folders: Retrospect Restore Points. 2.0 Opening the RRP folder I find two folders: a. Retrospect, b. Restore Point 2. 3.0 a. opening Retrospect---Restore Point 2 I see names AA00000, Date Modified 7/29/2005, RDB File , 614,404 KB. AA00001, etc. b. Opening Restore Point 2 I find Date Modified:11/24/2007, Size:40.2MB, Date Created:7/9/2005. I had used this Maxtor on my Desktop previously and I believe these are the files that I am seeing. I am hesitant to delete any of these files because they are valuable to me. Is it possible for you to call me at 414-771-2898? Thank you. Where do I go from Here?

No actually. This is a community based forum and not an official way to receive technical support (see forum rules). If you want technical support, please call EMC directly at http://www.emcinsignia.com/contactsupport or contact the vendor who provided you with the Express software. EMC Insignia charges for the technical support, but Maxtor should be able to help for free.
