jamesiporter
Is it possible to back up single files (like, a collection of files not all existing in one folder) using Express for OS X but also through a scheduled backup? I can see it is possible to do this with immediate backup; but how about scripted ones? or scheduled repetitions? Also, can RE find originals of aliases to back up the originals? (That way, one could create a folder of aliases to back up) thanks very much jport@umich.edu
AmyJ
Retrospect has "selectors" which will allow you to customize your backup. In the Express edition, you are limited to the built-in selectors, such as All Files, All Files except cache files, etc. There are two selectors called "Hot Items" and "Exclude Cool Items" which are used to include any files/folders marked with the red "Hot" label or exclude any files/folders marked with the blue "Cool" label. Unfortunately, to date, Apple has not incorporated labels into OS X. Labels are a carryover from OS 9. However, if your system is dual boot, you can boot into 9 and label any OS X files/folder(s) as Hot or Cool and then use the label selector in Retrospect while booted in OS X. Or, there are third party utilities on the market that can label files/folders. Hopefully Apple will add labels natively in a future release of X. AmyJ
Yes - if you create selectors to save your file selection or create a file filter (exclude/include based on name, size, date, etc.)
