LISTER Posted March 20, 2003 Report Share Posted March 20, 2003 Retrospect Version 4.1i Apple Mac G3 System 8.5 HD 1.6GB Problem When searching for files on archive tape ON SITE TAPES CALLED TAPE B 1-10 (not all tapes, just tapes 6 and 9 out of 10 DLT storage tapes), the tape hangs the light of the drive flashes but the files do not recover no matter how long the machine if left, Recovery process I search for the files using - Restore - Search for files and folders, choose required files, the software then successfully finds the required files but when putting in the tape the light flashes and the window says locating files, but never gets and further and will continue to stay like this for hours Interim Solution Using the Duplicate Tapes OFF SITE CALLED TAPE A 1-11, I can recover any required files without any problems Why is this? I have created a new extensions set without any success. AmyJ Posted March 20, 2003 Report Share Posted March 20, 2003 From what you've described it sounds like the two tapes are failing. 8 tapes out of 10 are fine, and all tapes in your other backup set are fine. Tapes have a limited life span. They break down with repeated use, and improper storage can shorten the durability among other things. It is important to rotate new media into your backups and retire old tapes every so often. Try cleaning the heads on the tape drive and try the tapes in another supported tape drive to see if you have any better luck. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
