AmyJ
From the Knowledgebase Retrospect Client may cause 9.2.2 to freeze during startup on some G4 Macs Topic: Mac OS 9.2.2 hangs when the Retrospect Client attempts to load at startup Retrospect Client may prevent startup on some dual processor Power Mac G4 (Mirrored Drive Doors) systems running Mac OS 9.2.2 that is pre-installed. After installation of the Retrospect Client on some pre-installed versions of Mac OS 9.2.2, Mac OS may hang during the next reboot. The hang will occur when the Retrospect Client Control Panel attempts to load. To prevent the hang from occurring before installation of the Retrospect Client, follow these steps: 1. Launch the Extensions Manager from the Control Panels folder in the Apple menu. 2. Disable the "AppleShare" extension. 3. Quit the Extensions Manager. 4. Install the Retrospect Client. 5. Restart. 6. Log in the Retrospect Client from a different computer with Retrospect installed. 7. Enable the "AppleShare" extension in the Extensions Manager. 8. Restart. If the method of disabling the AppleShare extension does not work, rearrange the order that the Retrospect Client control panel loads: 1. Rename the Retrospect Client by adding a ! character to the beginning of the Control Panel name. Delete the Degree symbol at the beginning of the name. 2. Move the Retrospect Client to the Extensions folder 3. Make an alias of the Retrospect Client and add that to your Control Panels 4. Restart the computer. To recover the computer if it is already in the hung state: 1. Force-shut down the computer by pressing the power button on the front of the computer for at least 10 seconds. 2. Turn on the computer while holding down the space bar. Hold down the space bar until the Extensions Manager loads. 3. In the Extensions manager, disable the "AppleShare" extension. 4. Click Continue to boot the computer. 5. Log in the Retrospect Client from a different computer with Retrospect installed. 6. Enable the "AppleShare" extension in the Extensions Manager. 7. Restart.
