cowmac
I'm using Retrospect Express to back up a 6 GB disk on a powerbook to an external firewire drive as a file. The backup and verify complete normally. When I attempt to restore the backup I get the follwoing message: "Sorry, restore preparation failed, error -24043 (unknown)". Both filesystems are HFS+. I did a catalog verification and it said the catalog was OK. Any ideas?
AmyJ
Make sure the hard drive is plugged directly into the powerbook and not through a docking station. Try a new backup set - do you see the same behavior? As a test, try backing up to your internal drive and see if the problem replicates. This is not a problem we've seen, and I suspect it has to do with the external drive. If the drive is being accessed through a docking station (port replicator) it may not be receiving proper power. With docking stations, I've seen where external power supplies are needed to properly power attached hard drives.
