philferty
I made the mistake of posting this on the os X board, so I'm reposting here: I am unable to backup my titanium Powerbook with Retrospect Express 5 without having Disk Burner jumping in to try to "prepare" the CD-R blank, thus preventing Express from having any control. I'm running OS9.2.2 with 512 MB of RAM. Express is at version 5.0.205. Thanks for any help that anyone can offer.
AmyJ
Tell the program to "Ignore" the disk, which will leave it available for Retrospect.
philferty
Apple's Disk Burner only has two options that I'm aware of: "Prepare" and "Eject". Where can I find this "Ignore" option? Thanks
AmyJ
Look for an option to Prepare for Retrospect. If this is not available, while in Retrospect go to Configure > Devices > Device Status. List Vendor, Product and Version for your burner.
philferty
Thanks, I'll try it now...
philferty
No Luck. I found an option, "Reserve disk for Retrospect" in the pull-down menu of DiskBurner, hit the "prepare" button, and nothing happens. In addition, Express no longer sees the CD burner. Period. It's gone from the list, "Currently visible devices". What's your advice?
AmyJ
Is the drive seen in Configure > Devices > Device Status? Make sure you don't have any CD's in the tray. Please list Vendor, Product and Version for your device.
philferty
I tried that route and had no luck. The CD-RW drive that Apple System Profiler identifies (a Mishita 8121) is listed by Dantz as being approved. The drive was seen in "Configure > Devices > Device Status" whether there was a CD (recorded on or blank) in the tray or not. However, when I chose "Reserve for Retrospect" in the pull-down menu of DiskBurner (which continued to jump in front of Retrospect with the message, "This disk needs to be prepared for diskBurner" every time I tried to insert a blank CD), the burner drive disappeared (!) from the Device Status window and I couldn't figure how to get it back. I finally decided to uninstall Express, along with its preference file, then reinstall the program all over again. This course of action actually worked. The Mishita Drive reappeared in the "Device Status" window, DiskBurner no longer popped up in front of Express and I was finally able to back up my PowerBook successfully. The question remains, where was the problem? I assume that some sort of corruption was to blame, but I'm not sure whether my problems with Retrospect Express originated with the program itself or simply the preference file.
