Gregg
During attempted backups of System Folder, at 84MB on a 100MB zip disk, it stops. The last time I paid attention to the file name in the window. It was OpenTpt Remote Access. Then I get the following message: "Trouble writing media: "1-System Backup" error 102 (trouble communicating)" A backup of hot items goes just fine. I assumed that the System Folder backup was just telling me to insert a second disk, as it projected over 200MB to be backed up. But ejecting the first disk and putting in a second made it start from the beginning, and it froze at about the same place. OS 9.2.2 beige G3 desktop with 320MB of RAM, 2400K assigned to RE. How do I solve this puzzle?
AmyJ
If I'm reading your post correctly, you have one backup set for hot items and one for the system folder. If this is the case, try using a different disk for the system folder backup set. You may have a faulty disk. Make sure file sharing is turned off at the time of the backup in order to allow Retrospect to erase the disk(s). - Download the newest software/drivers from Iomega - Long reformat the zip disk using the Iomega Tools - Try backup with base extensions only
Gregg
Yes, you read correctly. I have tried three different disks. And I did check to be sure file sharing was off. Thanks for the other suggestions. So far, I've downloaded the appropriate IomegaWare for my OS. I didn't have time to try the backup again, and do everything else I wanted to do. It's going to be a busy weekend out of town, and I don't know if I'll get a chance to try before my return. But, I'm going to get to the bottom of this! Guest
What version of Retrospect are you using?
Gregg
Oops! I'm using version 4.1A - That information was in the subject line of the e-mail I sent to Dantz support. I didn't think to include it when they told me to post here, and I just pasted in the body of the message. Would version 4.2 make any difference. I seem to remember concluding that it was no big deal "way back" when I was using OS8.1 on the same computer, but now with 9.2 maybe I need to rethink that position. AmyJ
Retrospect 4.1 is not compatible with OS 9 and removable media. An upgrade is required for OS 9 compatibility. Gregg
Ah, so that's the problem! Upgrading your OS is a pain in the AS.. (couldn't resist) I followed the link, but didn't see anything that looked like it was going to tell me what version of RE I need for OS9.2.2 - Maybe I should have downloaded 4.2 before. Is it still available as a free update, or do I need 4.3? I'll hit the upgrades page at home when I have access to my number. I did see there that v5.0 is 20 bucks. Thanks for the tips! AmyJ
Retrospect 4.2 is no longer available. You will need to upgrade to Retrospect 5.0.
