Qualifying the LaCie 32x10x40 U&I

Recommended Posts

If we encouter a problem in the testing process that requires us to rewrite a driver, that can increase the time it takes for a device to be supported.

If we run into a problem and we need to work with the vendor of the drive to help them implement standard packet-writing commands better and/or to write and release drivers, that can increase the time it takes for a device to be supported.

If a company switches out the mechanism of a drive or changes the specs without telling us, it needs to be requalified from scratch, which means one incarnation of a drive may be supported well before others.

This drive is in testing, still. Although we are trying hard to qualify it, please understand that not all drives will be qualified, and of those that are, some take a while. Yes it's frustrating. That's why we recommend that you check the compatibility list before making a purchase that may not immediately, or possibly ever, suit your backup needs.

Devices that become supported after a software release are supported through Driver Update files.

Can you give me a idea when this drive will be qualified ? It is my understanding that this drive is in the qualification process. Please don't give me your general company response, just a time when this drive will work with your software. Will this drive be qualitied by the end of 2002 ?

Regards

Due to the nature of drive testing it is not possible to predict when or if this drive will ever be qualified. We cannot predict whether a drive will pass our tests. If we run into problems, we may need to build new drivers, or work directly with the vendor for resolution. Some drives are never qualified. I understand your frustration, however, providing any kind of date estimate is just not possible.

Amy,

Can you please read your last Post on this Thread? It was back in June. I have been in contact with LaCie and Dantz still has no testing results on my LaCie 32x10x40 U&I CD-RW.

Do you know anything further. LaCie does not know a thing, which baffles me because they are one of Dantz's hardware Partners.

Thanks,

Joe Cuviello

This drive is still in testing. Yes, it's frustrating. We get drives qualified as quickly as possible. However, drives may not work properly out of the box. It can take weeks or months, as you've seen, to finalize qualification on new drives. Ultimately, some drives will never be qualified. This drive is still in the qualification process.

Yes, we do bundle with some LaCie drives. However, this doesn't ensure that other drives produced by LaCie will be any lower or higher on the priority list then other vendors.
