Automatic Groom Does not work

Recommended Posts

I have a disk backup set configured to, "Groom to remove backups older than 7 days". The backup set continually fills up and does not groom automatically as advertised. What am I doing wrong? The documentation clearly says if this is checked it will groom "Automatically"???

Thanks,

Ryan

Schedule a "groom" script once in a while. We run one each weekend.

Otherwise grooming will occur when you least want it. It occurs when the size reaches the maximum size (in bytes or %) allowed. This may be when you need good performance to finish the script before morning.

I can create a script but my problem is when it reaches the max size or percent the backups just don't run anymore because it says waiting for media. I would expect it to groom then Automatically to free up the media.

Thanks

Are you sure it can groom anything? I mean, is there room for all 7 days of backups?

Ummm... Isn't it the 7 last backups? Not 7 days? <Checking manual.> Yes, it IS the last 7 backups for each client (and volume), regardless of age in days.

So, how many snapshots do you have of each client (and volume)?
