Error-1028_client not visible

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Have done a forum search on this and consulted the Manual, (how innovative of me...), but need to bounce this one off someone. Have been successfully backing up for several weeks now, including rotating a recycle backup successfully.

The last two mornings have received the above error message. Client and host desktop G5s on 10.3.9. Retrospect 6.0.204.

Client has 2 internal SATA drives. Boot drive on client showing the error. 2nd internal is visible and backing up OK.

Have used Network utility to ping client mac. Pings OK. [They both share the same IP address, right?]

Only thing that's a bit odd is that Retrospect's view of the non-recognised volume [Configure>Volumes>Get Info] is that it has 15 Gb free.(15%). The Get info on the client Mac shows 34Gb. free space..(?).

Would be grateful on any suggestions for the next steps.

Shall do Dave, but at home now. Will send more info, (including relevant log stuff), end Monday Oz time, (beginning Mon your time). What I can add from home is that both the drives on client machine are included as volumes in the backup Set. The backup is going onto 2 external FireWire drives attached to the host machine. The Backup Set is comprised of the 2 internal drives on client machine, as mentioned, + 1 internal on the host machine. Backup is incremental with recycle as needed. But shall send more detail Monday.

Hi,

Here is the relevant section of the log entry. Macintosh HD is the Boot drive of the client G5. Prepress HD2 is the 2nd internal drive to be backed up, which is happening OK. The first line below is the worry.. If you think I can privide any other info, I'll be glad to try and do so.

Thanks

Can't access volume Macintosh HD on prepress, error -1028 (client is not visible on network).

Hi,

The drive in question now seems to be backing up OK. Some sort of temporary drop-off. Have copied and pasted this morning's log entry:
