Using Retrospect Mac version to restore Win backup?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I used a Windows version of Retrospect to backup my entire laptop internal HD to an external HD just before a HD failure on the laptop. I am now going to be running a Mac system on a new Macbook.

Will I be able to use a Mac version of Retrospect on my new Macbook to get access to the backup set I previously created with a Windows version? I will also have to recreate the catalog file since that rests on the failed HD.

Thanks

Unfortunately not. The file formats are different for Retrospect Mac and Retrospect Windows. I would suggest that you use Apple's BootCamp to boot your new MacBook into Windows, run Retrospect Windows to access the Windows backup set, restore the drive, then put Retrospect Client on the Windows machine, back it up from Retrospect Mac (accessing the Windows client).
