Well, I called the support number, and gave up after waiting over 21 minutes. They have the audacity to say, support call waits are "due to the popularity of our award-winning software"! I think they mean they're due to "understaffing" or "too many problems".

 

During the wait, the recording says to check http://support.emc.com/software (actually, he says, "htp:\\support.emc.com\software" [sic], but I digress). So I check the page, I select Retrospect, just to get forwarded to the original page which gives the telephone numbers to call. Arrrg!

 

Anyway, you think there'd be an email address we could submit the assert_log file to. After all, it's doing them a favour if it helps them fix a bug.

I'm glad you have a support contract, but you missed the second part of the paragraph: "it's doing them a favour if it helps them fix a bug." They provide a 1-888 number to call to report the bug, so why not an email address or bug report form?

 

Most other software companies have email addresses that you can submit bug reports to, even without a support contract. They do it because it is to their benefit to be able to fix bugs and make the program more robust. Apparently EMC thinks otherwise.
