operations
Running Retro 5.0.025 Server w/Driver update 2.7.102 on a B/W G3, OS X 10.1.5, 96MB RAm using a LaCie FW AIT tape drive (Sony mechanism). According to Dantz this is a supported tape drive for OS X. Basically, what happens is the script starts as scheduled, it does the file/folder checks, rewinds the tape, then switches to the "Please wait..." statement, checks the tape drive for a second and then the beach ball spins and never stops. Clicking the desktop does not move you to the Finder, but you can select it from the dock. Once in the Finder you can force quit Retrospect (you need to do it twice). Start up Retrospect again and go to Configure/Devices and it will scan like crazy (again the spinning beach ball) but never access the FW drive. Only a restart of the OS will fix this. Any ideas what is going on and how to fix this?
IrenaS
Are you able to write to a file backup set? Do you have any other FireWire devices connected to the computer? Is the drive plugged directly into the computer, or is connected to a hub? Have you tried replacing the cable? Does the Apple System Profiler see the drive before you start the backup? After? operations
Are you able to write to a file backup set? Can't tell never got that far. Do you have any other FireWire devices connected to the computer? This is the only device on the system FW or otherwise Is the drive plugged directly into the computer, or is connected to a hub? It is plugged directly into the firewire port of the CPU. I tried both ports on the CPU and on the drive. Also remember, Retro 5 did rewind the tape prior to dropping contact with it. Also, after rebooting the Config/Devices finds and recognizes the drive. A check of the media also access the drive and returns the media info. Have you tried replacing the cable? Tried two different cables. No difference Does the Apple System Profiler see the drive before you start the backup? After? ASP does detect the drive and identifies it perfectly. I did this right after force quiting Retrospect and right after rebooting the system. No difference.
CallMeDave
In reply to: Running Retro 5.0.025 Server w/Driver update 2.7.102 on a B/W G3, OS X 10.1.5, 96MB RAm using a LaCie FW AIT tape drive (Sony mechanism). Does it do this _without_ the RDU (Retrospect Driver Update)? Dave
operations
It works (doesn't work, that is) the same either way - with or without the RDU
operations
It appears that the solution to the problem is to throw more memory at it. Once we took the memory up to 128MB Retrospect ran as expected. Thanks to all those who responded.
