Guest
I have a Dell 715N Nas Server with Windows 2000 powered OS. I want to be able to back it up. I am running Retrospect 5.5. I have tried backing up without the Client Software just Adding the Volume through network - That gives me Access Denied - Permissions error. So I am wondering if 5.5 can be installed on the NAS through Terminal Services of ir an Upgrade to 6.0 is required. THANKS!!! Dustin
Mayoff
Retrospect 6.0 has new features that make it easier to write to network drives like a NAS. This URL has a link to a tech note for backing up to hard disks, network devices and some tutorials too. http://www.dantz.com/index.php3?SCREEN=kbase&ACTION=KBASE&id=27642
Guest
Actually I think I may hae not been clear - I want to back-up the Dell NAS 715N to a tape back-up. When I try by going into the script and clicking the network button - browse to the Dell715 NAS Server - select the folder I want and add it all seems fine. When the Tape-backup tries to run it gives me the "error -1017 (Insufficient Permissions)". The System has fullcontrol on that folder - as well as Domain Admins - so should not get error like that. Maybe it is cause it is a NAS Server? So I was thinknig can you install the Client 5.5 on the NAS and back-up that way or will that not make dfference? Is it a permissions problem or is it that I need 6.0 in order to back-up a NAS Server? This is my first NAS Server in the office so have never tried to back-up one of these before with Retrospect. THANKS!!! Dustin

This is a great option and should avoid this error. You can do this. 5.5 is starting to get a little old, but should work. If you own Retrospect 5.6 or 6.0, you should use that.
