Seeing a Mac Client

Recommended Posts

While in Retrospect, go to Configure > Clients > ADd > Test and type in the IP Address - what response do you get?

Is the client in a different subnet? The Workgroup Edition will not see clients outside of it's own local subnet.

How about a Firewall? Make sure all Firewalls (hardware and software) are wide open to traffic on Port 497.

If Retrospect can see a client with the Test command, but can't see it in the Multicast Windows, there are a few possibilities:

1. The machines are in different subnet

2. A Firewall is blocking access

3. UDP packet access is getting blocked by a piece of software or hardware

4. Corrupt settings or faulty network hardware

Try a direct cross-over cable between the client and the server - if it shows up, the problem is coming from the existing network.
