gsingers
Hi, I am trying to restore a backup set. Express tells me that my set is valid, but then when I go to restore I get an error saying the checksum doesn't match. I try to rebuild the catalog file from the backup set, but it crashes and core dumps (doesn't even offer an error message) when it gets about half way through. I tried rebuilding from 6.1 desktop to, but the same thing happens. Any thoughts on how I can get at my data? Thanks, Grant
gsingers
The error message when restoring is -24201 (chunk checksum didn't match)
rhwalker
Grant, welcome to the Retrospect forums. I'm a bit confused about the facts here. (1) you posted in the Retrospect 5.x forum, not the forum for Retrospect 6.x or Retrospect Express. That seems to indicate that you might be running Retrospect 5.x. (2) The second sentence of your post seems to indicate that you might be running Retrospect Express: Quote: Express tells me that my set is valid, ... (3) The second paragraph of your post seems to indicate, however, that you might be running Retrospect 6.1: Quote: I tried rebuilding from 6.1 desktop to, but the same thing happens. So the first thing that we need to know is just what version of Retrospect you are running. Look in Retrospect's logs, it should tell you. That might give us a clue as to your problem and to your solution. (4) We don't have any information about your hardware, whether you have a file, removable media, or tape backup set, or your operating system version. Please provide this information, exactly how you are trying to restore (and from what), and we might be able to offer some suggestions. gsingers
I can now rebuild the catalog, anyway. Turns out in addition to losing a disk, I had a memory chip go bad too. When it rains, it pours. Thanks for the help.
