Can see only one network client

Recommended Posts

I have a standard Dual 2 gig G5 running Panther. Im trying to back up an iMac (Andrea's compuer which has panther installed) and a Beige G3 (Linda's computer which is running OS X 10.2.8) over the network. I'm using Retrospect 5.1 and I do have a license to back up two network computers. However, I do not have a license to "Add by Address".

I can see Linda's computer in the list of "Backup Clients on Network". I can not see Andrea's computer in the list. The network protocol selected is TCP/IP and the Type is Mac OX X.

I can mount Andrea's networked computer on the desktop, so I know the network is working. When I mount Andrea's computer on the desktop, then this volume does appear in Retrospect's "Volume Selection" window as a Local Desktop volume (but not a network volume). I am then able to backup part of this volume (AndreaHD). I'm still experimenting to try to get it to recognize more of this volume for backup.

I would really like Retrospect to recognize Andrea's computer as a network volume and get it backed up completely.

Thanks for the help! The knowledge base article helped me to solve my problem.

The Retrospect Client was not installed properly on one of the client computers. I apparently tried to install the client the first time by dragging it to the applications folder.

After downloading a copy of the Retrospect Client 5.1 installer (this was the piece that I was missing), I was able to insall it on the client computer. Now this computer shows up on the machine I use to backup from. I was able to successfully make a backup.
