srp336
I've got a Mac OS X machine running Retrospect 6.1 backing up a list of Mac clients. This has worked fine for a long time. I've recently purchased some PC clients (v7.5) for some Windows XP laptops. They seem to work OK, but they're terribly and unusably slow. For example, I'm getting about 300 MB/min for users on 100mbit Ethernet, about 40 MB/min for users on 10mbit Ethernet. In contrast, I get about 10 MB/min for most XP laptop users, and for one I'm getting half of that. Is there any way to speed up these laptop backups? twickland
Windows client v7.5 is not recommended for use with Retrospect for Mac; instead, EMC recommends v7.0.112. I'm not sure whether 7.5 is part of your problem, but we're still using Windows client v6.0.110 (if it ain't broke...) and typically achieve slightly faster backup speeds with our XP vs. our Mac clients. nekr0phage
Hi Steve, If you do use the 7.5 client make sure you have the most recent version - 7.5.116. The previous version had a common problem that would restrict transfer rates to ~10MB/min when being backed up with Retrospect for Mac. I'm not sure if this was universal, but it was very common.
