ltaylor
Hi, I was doing a full backup when I got an error stating that the drive was dirty and it skipped the tape and tried to write to another. I cancelled the backup at this time and cleaned the tape drive. When looking at the backup I had 3 full tapes, one tape that was half full and another tape that had a bit on it. So that I wouldnt waste any space I erased the last two tapes and in the backup set I marked the tape as "missing".. I am not sure that this was the right thing to do.. but what happened was I ran the backup and it appears to have backed everything up.. the missing backup tape is still showing in the set. Will this affect the my backup? is it going to have any impact if I go to restore? or would it just ignore the tape and write the "lost" data to another backup tape. It looks like it backed it all up it goes backup member 1,2,3,5,6 so it skips over 4 but uses the same amount of tapes that it normally does. Not quite sure how this "missing" tape function works. twickland
When a backup set member is marked "missing," it will still appear in the list of backup set members, but will have a "poof" to the left of the member's name instead of a checkmark. The backed-up files of each member are listed in the backup set's catalog. When a member is marked "missing," Retrospect will ignore the entries belonging to the missing member when it performs its matching function; i.e., the files associated with that member will be backed up again. This assumes you are performing a normal, incremental backup. If you are performing a full recycle backup, there is, of course, no matching to the old catalog. In that case (assuming that the tape member itself is not defective) you can set it to "found" and it will be reused along with the other members of the recycled backup set. ltaylor
The item that I marked as missing has a "poof" beside it and it says that it has "zero K used". The other members all have sizes next to them. I am performing normal backups daily so I assume this means that I am ok. Thank you for your help
