kaveh
I have a large amount of data to back up to the internet for the first time. Supposing I need to unplug my computer or quit Retrospect during backup. Will it resume from where it left off or will it start over again? So if my data needs 10 hours in order to build the first dataset, can I do it in several goes?
twickland
Asssuming the normal defaults for matching are active, your subsequent backups will not back up any unchanged files that were previously backed up. However, if you interrupt a backup in progress, you will not secure the benefit of the compare function that ensures the files were copied correctly. To avoid this problem, you may want to consider defining a series of subvolumes, such that the data in each subvolume can be backed up and compared in a reasonable amount of time.
