TerribleToll
I have used Retrospect to set up numerous backup systems for many of my clients for over 10 years now and your documentation has finally driven me to contact you. Quite simply, the manual is utterly incomprehensible to most forms of human life. Whilst I have worked out how to use the package over the years using the hands-on approach, even I cannot use the manual to help in any way beyond basic reference, and my clients have never been able to get past the first chapter. As your software has developed this has got worse and worse. The answer is very simple. You MUST use flowcharts to describe your backup strategies. Graphics can help so much to explain backup strategies that are non-linear. Written text is by it's very nature written serially, so even simple processes cannot be explained without writing paragraphs. The old adage 'a picture is worth a thousand words' could not be more relevant here. Incidentally, if you need somebody to develop the graphics, I would be delighted with the commission. One of the reasons this is SO annoying is that I specialise in this sort of work and I know it would make such a big difference for most of your customers. yours faithfully Anatole Beams Digital Media http://www.abdm.co.uk
