vandehey
Hello, I have Retro server 5 running on a mac machine. I added an XP client, which is successful. Once added, I get an error saying that 'Could not access client volumes, error -1'. The XP machine does not have a firewall installed. Any ideas? RonaldL
What OS is the backup server running on? What version of the client is running on the XP machine? Are you able to connect to any other clients?
vandehey
Sorry for the lack of info. The backup server is running on 10.2.8. The client is 6.5, on XP SP2. I can connect and backup all the other clients, which are Mac clients. Thanks for the help.
waltr
hi van, you do know that XP SP2 turns on the M$ firewall by default, right? you stated in your first post that there is no firewall installed, but you may want to check again--i don't think you can choose not to install it........ check in the control panels. if it's in there try disabling & see if that works. there is a kb that i'll find for you if disabling works but you need the firewall running. vandehey
I launched the XP Security Center. It said that the firewall is off, and didn't detect any protection. Can we try that KB? -Van
waltr
hi van, the kb is if the firewall is on and you need to keep it on. since you say it's off and it sounds like you won't be turning it on, you probably don't need it. does the winXP computer have more than one network interface? a wifi card would qualify in this case. also, how is this computer connected to your network? is there any difference between it and the rest of your network? finally, if none of the above apply, it could be an incompatiblity with the 2 versions of Retrospect. you may have to uninstall the 6.5 client and try an older version. you can DL the 6.0 or 5.6 client from here: http://www.dantz.com/en/support/updates_archive.dtml i'd try the 5.6 client first. vandehey
Back-reving the client to 5.6 did the trick! Thanks again! -Jeff
