Charles218
I just received my new Powerbook from Apple and need to transfer files. The Migration Assistant seems like a good idea, but I need to clarify one point first. I do not have my old Powerbook any longer, but I do have Retrospect back-ups and a Retrospect Duplicate of the old computer. Can I use the Migration Assistant with the Duplicate of my old Powerbook? I just don't want to get half way through only to discover that it just will not work and I've created a mess trying. Charles
Lennart_T
Hi. Yes, you can use the duplicate you made in Retrospect. Regards Lennart
Charles218
Lennart, thanks for the response. I tried to use my "Retrospect Duplicate" of my old Powerbook but Migration Assistant does not see it. The duplicate is saved on a internal drive that is mounted in my desktop machine. When I start my desktop in Target Disk Mode, the Powerbook duplicate does not show up. The duplicate of my desktop machine is on the same disk as the Powerbook duplicate and the desktop duplicate does show up. The partition that contains the Powerbook duplicate does mount, I just can't select it in Migration Assistant. When I go to System Preferences > Startup Disks, the Powerbook duplicate does not show up, although it did when I first created it a few months ago. Not quite sure how to proceed. You didn't mention A) that the duplicate was on an internal drive and it was on the second partition. I think Firewire Target Disk Mode only works for the first partition. Try on another (already installed) Mac and see if you can get the (right) duplicate to show up on the desktop. If not, Migration Assistant can't "see" it either.
