macpublish
I seem to be having a SCSI-related problem running Retrospect v6.1.126 on Tiger (10.4.3) and wonder if anyone can give me a hint as to what to try next. I have 3 devices on SCSI chain all with proper IDs and termination. Swapped out cables already to make sure it's not a bad cable. My HD and Zip-100 are working fine and I know the tape drive is OK because it worked fine on another computer running OS 9 and Retrospect v4.2. Retrospect recognizes the tape drive but I have a fatal crash (I can recreate it) just after it scans for files and prepares to execute the back up. Here is part of the report that I get when I restart: ----start error report--- panic(cpu 0 caller 0x00505D7C): SCSI(Adaptec78XX): Max S/G segments exceeded Latest stack backtrace for cpu 0: Backtrace: 0x00095698 0x00095BB0 0x0002683C 0x00505D7C 0x004FABA4 0x004FBA14 0x004F892C 0x002CF960 0x002CE828 0x000A9814 Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies): com.apple.driver.Adaptec78XXSCSI(1.1.2)@0x502000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(1.7)@0x47d000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOSCSIFamily(1.4.0)@0x4f6000 com.apple.iokit.IOSCSIFamily(1.4.0)@0x4f6000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOSCSIArchitectureModelFamily(1.4.4)@0x4d9000 Proceeding back via exception chain: Exception state (sv=0x31FE2780) PC=0x00000000; MSR=0x0000D030; DAR=0x00000000; DSISR=0x00000000; LR=0x00000000; R1=0x00000000; XCP=0x00000000 (Unknown) Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 8.3.0: Mon Oct 3 20:04:04 PDT 2005; root:xnu-792.6.22.obj~2/RELEASE_PPCModel: PowerMac3,5, BootROM 4.3.3f2, 2 processors, PowerPC G4 (2.1), 1 GHz, 1.5 GB Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce4 MX, GeForce4 MX, AGP, 64 MB Graphics: ATY,Rage128, ATY,Rage128, PCI, 16 MB Memory Module: DIMM0/J21, 512 MB, SDRAM, PC133-333 Memory Module: DIMM1/J22, 512 MB, SDRAM, PC133-333 Memory Module: DIMM2/J23, 512 MB, SDRAM, PC133-333 Modem: Spring, UCJ, V.90, 7.0F, APPLE VERSION 0007, 7/31/2000 Network Service: Built-in Ethernet, Ethernet, en0 PCI Card: ADPT,1686806-04, scsi, SLOT-3 PCI Card: pci9004,7850, sppci_scsi_bus, SLOT-4 PCI Card: ATY,Rage128, Display, SLOT-2 Parallel ATA Device: IBM-IC35L080AVVA07-0, 76.69 GB Parallel ATA Device: IBM-IC35L080AVVA07-0, 76.69 GB Parallel ATA Device: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104, SCSI Device: IBM DGHS18Z, 17.09 GB SCSI Device: IOMEGA ZIP 100, USB Device: Generic USB Hub, ALCOR, Up to 12 Mb/sec, 500 mA USB Device: Generic USB Hub, ALCOR, Up to 12 Mb/sec, 500 mA USB Device: Hub in Apple Pro Keyboard, Mitsumi Electric, Up to 12 Mb/sec, 500 mA USB Device: Apple Optical USB Mouse, Fujitsu Takamisawa Component, Up to 1.5 Mb/sec, 100 mA USB Device: Apple Pro Keyboard, Mitsumi Electric, Up to 12 Mb/sec, 250 mA FireWire Device: LaCie 1394 CDRW drive LUN 0, LaCie Group SA, Up to 400 Mb/sec ---end error report---
macpublish
I think I found the answer and it's not good. Seems like my Adaptec SCSI Contoller card is not working properly with Tiger/Retrospect: http://kb.dantz.com/display/2n/articleDirect/index.asp?aid=5642&r=0.2598993
twickland
Adaptec dropped OS X support of their host adapter cards beyond Jaguar. You will need to purchase a new card from a different vendor such as ATTO.
