multiple copies of Retrospect starting (and other)

Recommended Posts

A couple of problems on Tiger 10.4.2 and a question:

Problems:

1. Scripts are failing due to locked catalogs. Upon closer inspection 2 copies of Retrospect are starting up and trying to run a set of scheduled scripts. In this case there are 4 scripts all schedule to start at 01:00. This has worked fine for over a year, the scripts wait and run in alphabetical order.

2. Retrorunfile is being corrupted frequently so Retrospect stops launching to run scheduled scripts. In this case scripts are scheduled to run at least every day. Retrospect is failing to launch at least once per week, perhaps more often at times. I delete /library/preferences/retrospect/retrorunfile and retrospect will start properly the next time but as I say this is a reoccuring problem.

Question:

3. I have a large number of a) scripts and B) volumes across my Tiger client OS and c) 3 Windows clients. How can I save this configuration so that if I need to re-install I don't need to start from scratch and set it all up again. For example; I needed to do this when I opted to do a clean install of Tiger rather than upgrade from Panther. Also I have had Retrospect problems in the past that have meant re-installing retrospect and loosing all of the above listed configurations (a, b & c). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Problems 1 and 2 are supposedly addressed in 6.1 (although this is known only from hints by Dantz tech support posts, and not as part of the list of features/fixes in the release). What version of Retrospect are you using?

Your scripts, settings and serial number are stored in the configurations file, located in /Library/Preferences/Retrospect. Make periodic copies of this file.
