I keep getting this error message when starting Retrospect 6.1.126 on Tiger 10.2.4 server.

I will click fix and restart. Then a few times I recieved this error.

After I get through all of that. I choose the device i wish to use which is the "HP SureStore AutoLoader". I will click on the tape drives to erase them where I get the colored spinning wheel and they appear.

I then did a repair permissions and here are the results.

Repairing permissions for “OS”

Determining correct file permissions.

We are using special permissions for the file or directory ./Library/Widgets. New permissions are 16877

Permissions differ on ./Users, should be drwxrwxr-t , they are drwxrwxr-x

Owner and group corrected on ./Users

Permissions corrected on ./Users

Permissions differ on ./private/var/log/secure.log, should be -rw------- , they are -rw-r-----

Owner and group corrected on ./private/var/log/secure.log

Permissions corrected on ./private/var/log/secure.log

We are using special permissions for the file or directory ./usr/lib/php/build/acinclude.m4. New permissions are 33060

Permissions repair complete

The privileges have been verified or repaired on the selected volume

Does anyone have any ideas?

For Tiger, Apple introduced some greater security for /Library/StartupItems/

The dialog box you see shows up when that directory has permissions other then <drwxr-xr-x root wheel>

Since OS X doesn't include /Library/StartupItems/ by default, whatever installer first creates it will set its permissions. The Retrospect installer has always set permissions correctly for this folder.

The second error dialog is odd, though. The path (as shown in the screen capture):

"/Library/StartupItems/RetroRun"

seems to be describing a _file_ and not a folder (note the first screen capture ends in a forward slash, which would describe a folder). But there shouldn't be any file at this path, just a folder (which makes me suspect that the OS is leaving out the trailing forward slash because it's an _empty_ folder, and if I were more unix savvy I'd already know that...).

So the first thing I would suggest is when you see this dialog, take a look inside /Library/StartupItems/ and see what's there. Is there a RetroRun folder? Is there anything inside it?

Next, I'd suggest trying the following:

- In Retrospect->Special->Preferences->Notification, Uncheck "Automatically launch Retrospect"

Click OK and quit Retrospect

- Delete the folder /Library/StartupItems/RetroRun/

- Empty the trash

- _If_ you are unable to empty the trash, due to RetroRun being in use, kill it from the Acitvity Monitor application, then empty the trash.

- Launch Retrospect.

The "unexpected termination" dialog is likely unrelated to the first two, and would need more information to understand. Is your tape loader a SCSI device? What is the make/model/driver of the host adapter?

Hi Dave,

Thanks it's a "HP SureStore AutoLoader 1/9" and it is a SCSI device. I did the first part, deleted the retro run folder but I am still getting that ecurity error. I am still getting the spinning wheel when I try to configure the device. I hope you can help.

Thanks for you time,

Lob
