twickland
Quote: Does Retrospect compress data when you make a backup? You can set the option for software data compression in each backup script (or in Immediate Backup). If your storage device has hardware compression capabilities, Retrospect will use that unless you uncheck the box "Use Hardware Compression" when you first create the destination backup set. Quote: How much? Depends on the type of file; some compress well and some not at all. With our particular mix of files, we achieve an overall compression rate of around 12-15%, which I suspect is on the low side. However, don't expect to achieve the 50% compression rates that tape manufacturers like to tout.
