mattn
I have Restrospect 6.1.126 (just downloaded it from versiontracker). It runs great on Tiger. But on Panther (10.3.8) it doesn't work at all: when I try to start it up, nothing happens at all (no crash log, no nothing: the Console just says: Oct 13 19:00:38 localhost /Users/matt2/reason/Disk Utilities/Retrospect 6.1/Retrospect/Contents/MacOS/Retrospect: LaunchApplication(/Users/matt2/reason/Disk Utilities/Retrospect 6.1/Retrospect/Contents/MacOS/AuthenticateUser.app) But the interface never appears; the program is not running. Is this a known issue?
natew
Hi Is this a dual boot machine? Did you install Retrospect in both OSes? If not the permissions may be hosed. Thanks nate
Thurletta
Nate, Could you please elaborate on this? After nearly a year w/out backups (hard time getting DVD burner/media to work w/Retro after getting new Mac and moving from Zip disks to a gazillion CDs), I finally have Retrospect 6.0.204 working, backing up to FW drive and DVD/RWs. I downloaded the new 6.1.126, but have been afraid to install it. Mine is a dual-boot G4 running OS 10.3.9 and OS 9.2.2. When I upgraded from the Retro 5 I had used on my old Mac in OS 9 to Retro 6.0.204, I installed it only in OSX. Was I supposed to install it into OS 9, too? I always use Disk Utility to fix permissions in OSX and OS 9.2.2. Please, please elaborate. Thanks, Thurletta Is this a dual boot machine? Did you install Retrospect in both OSes? michaeln
Hi Matt, Before Retrospect launches, do you see an authentication window asking for an administrator password? Retrospect can't launch without an admin level user's authentication. FWIW, I have a tri-boot machine running 10.3.9, 10.4.2 and 10.4.2 Server with Retrospect installed on all 3 OS partitions and have not run into permissions problems. twickland
One thing I've noticed is that sometimes the Retrospect authentication window gets hidden under other open windows. Until you authenticate, the Retrospect icon doesn't appear in the Dock, or, if you've placed a copy in the Dock, there won't be a triangle next to the icon. Clicking on the application icon a second time will show the zoom effect, but will not bring the Retrospect authentication window to the front. If this is the case, Retrospect will not appear in the list of running applications, but the AuthenticateUser app will be listed in the Console log as Matt describes. Whenever this happens, I use Exposé to show all open windows so I can locate and get to the authentication window.
