scotty321
Robin, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but unfortunately Retrospect 6.1 does NOT solve the systemwide slow-downs that we have been experiencing reliably & consistently on ALL machines where we are running Retrospect. (Power Mac G4, dual 800 MHz, Mac OS X 10.4.2). Perhaps this issue is limited to only DUAL PROCESSOR machines? There are several other users who are having this problem as well, as you can see by this thread here: http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?13@976.ipixaDuRS9N.1@.68b4bde4/28 The reason that that thread is about Microsoft Word is because Retrospect causes Microsoft Word to HANG, whereas it just SLOWS DOWN any OTHER open applications. To recap this very serious issue: Whenever Retrospect kicks in for a backup, every single running application slows down to a crawl, including the Finder! Every program becomes unusable because it so slow, and Microsoft Word actually HANGS with a spinning beach ball. Every single application must be quit out of and relaunched again, in order to get speed back again. (Word must be force-quit of, and the Finder must be relaunched.) This bug is reproducible 100% of the time, without fail. This is on an "erase & install" of Tiger, and a complete uninstall/reinstall of Retrospect. It continues to happen in 6.1. Robin, I would be happy to host any Dantz representatives in my home to see this bug happen with their own eyes. You can also log into my machine via Timbuktu Pro to see it happening. It is 100% consistent, it is real, and it is caused by Retrospect. Thank you, Scott
natew
Hi EMC Dantz has dual processor machines just like yours and performs testing on said machines. What else do you have installed on these machines? If you install the OS on a firewire disk with no other application, boot from the disk and run a backup do you have the same slowdown problem? Thanks nate
scotty321
Okay, this problem was fixed with 10.4.3. Looks like it was an Apple problem!!
