Speed of backup to a wireless iMac

Recommended Posts

I've noticed in 6.1 (and it might have even been present in 6.0) that backups (including simple duplicates) to an iMac G5 which is connected to my network via Airport Extreme take forever with transfer speeds of only 6.5-9.2MB per minute. Sending the same files via Timbuktu, or by mounting the iMac in the finder and doing a simple copy, the time taken is less than two minutes, compared for over 14 minutes for Retrospect. Source and destination are on subvolumes so there is no time spent on scanning disks; compare also only takes second. The real delay is in writing the files to the target in Retrospect. Identical duplicates to ethernet clients or backups of other etehernet clients in a script happens very quickly, with throughput in excess of 100MB per minute

Any ideas?
