willmatthews
I have a backup set that spans 5 AIT-3 tapes. The first tape is currently unavailable, so I'm trying to rebuild the catalog in order to retrieve the data that's on the remaining tapes. However, after indicating that the first tape is missing, the rebuild process will keep recatalogging tape 2 over and over until I stop it. It managed to recover over a terabyte of data from a 120gb tape when left running over night. While I'm not questioning the possibility of magic tapes, I suspect it's much more likely that something is awry with the rebuild process. I tried marking tape 2 as missing as well but the same problem occurs with tape 3, etc. Further, it only seems to be able to pull up part of one snapshot...I know that there are multiple snapshots on each tape though. It's as though it's getting sent back to the beginnning at a particular point in the tape. All of these tapes are brand new and have been used only once...so while I'd be willing to believe that one tape may be a case of bad media, I doubt they're all bad. Can anybody provide any suggestions. Is there anyway I can just copy the data from the tapes even? Using: Sony AIT-3 LIB-81 Library XServe G4 OS X Server 10.4.2 ATTO ExpressPCI UL3S SCSI card Thanks, Will
natew
Hi I would try renaming or moving the Retrospect preference files and try the rebuild with clean preferences. Do you have the 3.20 driver for your atto card installed? Thanks nate
