ProfN
In addition to a recent CD or DVD backup set at a remote location, what else should be stored there in the event of destruction or loss of one's hard drives in order to quickly restore everything that was on the old Mac to a brand new Mac? 1. The current Retrospect version and RDU: Inasmuch as both the application version and RDU on the Retro 6 CD are out-of-date and the OS on that CD is Panther rather than Tiger, what could/should be burned on a new DVD or CD for running Retrospect on a brand new Mac that replaces one that is destroyed? 2. What's the recommended way to have in readiness for restoration the catalog for the most recent backup set of your hard drive partitions? Thanks for your consideration. natew
Hi I would make a copy of your catalog file on a regular CD for convinience sake. The biggest problem you will likely run into is drive support. If you buy a brand new mac there is a chance that the DVD drive will be so new that Retrospect doesn't have a driver for it. That would prevent you from being able to read backups. It would be best If you have an external DVD drive off site that can read your backup discs . Thanks for responding, Nate, but the problem is that secure off-site after one has retired means a small safety deposit box which has barely room for DVD media in their paper envelopes, but not much more. My 3 1/2" FW external HD (on which I use Retro 6's "Duplicate" feature to clone my 3 partitions) is too wide to fit. Which brings me back to my first question: Quote: The current Retrospect version and RDU: Inasmuch as both the application version and RDU on the Retro 6 CD are out-of-date and the OS on that CD is Panther rather than Tiger, what could/should be burned on a new DVD or CD for running Retrospect on a brand new Mac that replaces one that is destroyed? Your counsel, please? Respectfully, Norm
natew
Hi You can always get the latest version of Retrospect from the EMC Dantz updates page. That and your license code are all you really need. Burning them to CD ahead of time is handy but not really required. Thanks Nate
