retrospect corrupting original files and returning "-39 unexpected end of file" errors

Recommended Posts

retrospect 6 on tiger backing up remote data to a firewire VXA 2 library and loader.

during each backup, we get several -39 errors with the explanation "unexpected end of file"

those files are then rendered unusable on the machine we're backing up.

i've heard some folks say we should run disk utility on the machine we're backing up, which we'll do, but i'm wondering if anyone else has had files corrupted during the backup process and if the fact that we're not using the retrospect client may have anything to do with it - it's a network backup, but we're just mounting the remote drive over afp for the backup.

thanks!
