phillr
Hi, i'm a video editor and a client recently dumped off 50 DVD+R's with me. Lo and behold I discover that the footage on them was archived on his computer to DVD using Dantz Retrospect. +$100 later I have Dantz installed (and a receipt to charge him with). I've been reading through the manual but it's a bit confusing for an 'end-user' like myself. So what I did to retrieve the first batch of files (spread across 4 DVDs) was to put the first in, rebuild the catalog file, then put the next DVD in until all 4 were in and the catalogue file is complete. This took ~20 minutes to do. Then I realized all it did was make a 'reference' file (the catalogue file) and didn't actually transfer the data. So I opened up the catalogue file and set Dantz to ask for each DVD in order to trasnfer data. Finally the data's transferred off after one hour of effort. 4 DVDS = 1 hour. 50 DVDs = ~12 hours. Not a great use for my time and computer. Is there any way I can retreive the files on the first "read" of the DVD's? Instead of making Dantz "read" the DVD once for the catalogue file and again to retreive the data.
natew
Hi Catalog files are required to perform the restore. If your client can provide a copy of the catalog file you will not have to do the rebuild before running restores. Thanks Nate
