"Bad backup set header found" messages in log.

Recommended Posts

Running retrospect Workgroup 6 on a 10.3.4 server, backing up to an AIT 1 drive. Backing up local volumes works fine, but when backing up a retrospect client over the network, I get hundreds of "Bad backup set header found" messages in log.

Have tried multiple tapes and multiple backup sets. Has anyone run into this?

Follow-up with some more info (as I can no longer edit my original post):

Problem backup client is version 6.0.108. AIT 1 drive is SCSI U-160, connected to an adaptec 39160 card. I deduced that the problem is probably not with the SCSI card/ Tape drive, as backups of local desktop volumes all work fine to the AIT, but the network client backups yield all the "bad backup set header" messages.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi

This is most likely a problem with the Adaptec SCSI card. The 1.1 version of the Adaptec driver (default version for OSX) can trash data as it is sent to the tape. This was resolved with the 1.2 version of the Adaptec driver.

If this is OSX 10.3 you should use a Dantz supported SCSI card listed here:

Thanks

Nate
