Rebuilt old LTO2 tape in Retrospect 10.5

Recommended Posts

Hi Retrospect

I have an old setup:

Mac with Retrospect 6.1.230

2 SCSI Tape Drives

HP StorageWorks Ultrium 448 LTO2  and  HP StorageWorks Ultrium 920 LTO3

And a new setup:

Mac with Retrospect 10.5.0

1 SAS Tape Library

Overland Neo 400 with IBM LTO4 and LTO6 drives

Is it possible to read the old LTO2 tapes in the new Neo 400 LTO4 drive?

I try to rebuild the catalog but Retrospect just fail.

The LTO4 drive just unload the tape.

This sounds like the issue is between the tape and the drive, and has nothing to do with Retrospect.

Are you possibly loading the tape into the LTO-6 drive? Or might the tape be LTO-1?

LTO drives can write to tapes of their own generation and the generation immediately prior; they can also read tapes from two generations prior, but nothing earlier than that
