What does error -105 (unexpected end of data) actually mean?

I've suddenly started getting this error on my primary home backup.

The backup device is not exhibiting any issues. I've tested the drives, the interface, chkdsk, file copies, etc. All is well.

A clue: it's a raid box that got low on space and a backup failed. I expanded the available capacity. Yet Retrospect is upset.

Any hints on what error -105 really means?

I've searched the forums etc... people seem to get random results, and often give up, reformatting and starting all over. That's a pretty extreme result.

Blessings,

Pete
