amkassir
Yesterday I launched Retrospect 10.0.0 and it notified me that 10.0.1 was available. In the past all Retrospect updates have gone without a hitch, so I allowed Retrospect to go ahead and download the update. After relaunching, it asked me to install the server. In the past, it always needed to update the engine so I went ahead. After clicking "Install" to install the server on my Mac, an installer launched. I proceeded. When the installer was almost done, and verifying packages, I got a message that the installer failed. First time this has ever happened. So, I uninstalled Retrospect completely (except for the /Library/Application Support/Retrospect/ folder and its contents) and downloaded 10.0.1 from the Retrospect website, thinking that maybe the first download was corrupted. I reinstalled 10.0.1 and the installer failed again. Then I tried uninstalling Retrospect AND deleting /Library/Application Support/Retrospect/ and starting from scratch. Same result. Maybe there is something wrong with the installer. I spoke with Retrospect tech support for about half an hour and we couldn't get this installation to occur without the error. The console includes the following possibly related lines: 12/12/12 7:46:36.226 PM Retrospect[3033]: Error loading /Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types.osax/Contents/MacOS/Adobe Unit Types: dlopen(/Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types.osax/Contents/MacOS/Adobe Unit Types, 262): no suitable image found. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance. Anyway, I decided to forget about 10.0.1 and revert back to 10.0.0, but after uninstalling and reinstalling again, I couldn't get 10.0.0 to startup. There was a message in the console that the Retrospect.app was quarantined by Safari and wouldn't be allowed (by Gatekeeper?) to startup. Great. So I went back to 10.0.1 and reinstalled it, with the same Installer error. In any case, my Retrospect engine is version 10.0.1 and my console is 10.0.1. I'm doing a backup. So far, so good. Questions: Has anyone else encountered this error? Should I just ignore the installer error and assume everything is okay? Any other advice? Thanks for any help on this. kerryd
I too ran into a problem with the installer but not quite like yours but for me this has never happened with any software I've got over many years. After running the instsaller there was no Retrospect to launch. I found both the old and new in the trash. I pulled the new one out of the trash and launched Retrospect. Upon restart all my scripts etc were gone. Its like I had a factory fresh version of the software. I decided that I just needed two simple scripts to run at 10 at nght aand used the easyt installer to get back up and running. However, this was all a bit scary. I phoned Retrospect and they hadn't heard of this but they had just posted it when I went and ran it. I indicaatted thsgt they probsbly would find others who will encounter some kind of problem and they should be aware aand they thanked me. I have no idea if they pulled the installer or not and re-worked it but...........
amkassir
Kerryd: Thanks for the post. Perhaps when 10.0.2 comes out the installer will work as expected. At this point I've done a few backups and groomed a media set successfully, so I'm thinking my installation of 10.0.1 is working fine. On the other hand, perhaps it is not wise to rely on my 10.0.1 installation after the problem I reported during the installation.
