Guest soundevolution
Windows Backup has the ability to backup files that are in use by making volume shadow copy and backing up from there. This is a critically important function for applications which are left running (similar to a service) and have a data file open while they are operating. This data file needs to be backed up. Can Retrospect work in this manner? (I understand that the backup may be inconsistent if the application was half way through doing a write to the file, but this is the application's problem, not the backup system's problem.) Lennart_T
With the "open files" add-on, Yes. http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/retrospect/retrospect-win/add-ons.html
Cygnis
Lennart is correct. Additionally, it is worth noting that the "Professional" version of Retrospect includes the open-file backup feature at no additional cost. (It is only the "Server" and "Disk to Disk" versions where this has to be purchased as an add-on.) Edited October 4, 2011 by Cygnis
