Blinking Question Mark

Recommended Posts

I have a stuck activity and a blinking question mark. It says it needs media, although there's 500GB of space left on the drive that it's backing up to. This is the second time this has happened in the past two weeks. I put a support request into Roxio, who suggested various solutions including upgrading to Mac OS 8.6!!! So that's not a lot of use. I can't stop the activity or rebuild the media set while it's busy, so I don't know what to do. Someone else recently posted a similar problem (http://forums.support.roxio.com/topic/75565-question-mark-needs-media/) but the solutions of rebuilding the media set or switching the Retrospect engine off and on don't work for me. Suggestions appreciated.

Be sure that you haven't set a limit on the amount of space on the volume that Retrospect is allowed to use.

In the Console, go to the Media Sets window, highlight the appropriate media set, and click on the pencil (i.e., "edit") icon at the bottom of the window. This will enable you to verify and change the allowed capacity for each available disk volume.

Well, the resolution of that issue was the user was not reading the dialog box Retrospect had presented, leading to a misunderstanding of what information the program was actually providing.

So when you write:

I have a stuck activity and a blinking question mark. It says it needs media

It leaves much to the imagination of the reader.

I'd suggest providing additional information to help others help you.
