asmith51
Recently switched to Retrospect 8 after using v.6 for years in an office with 17 macs and an XServe. Attempted several times to do an immediate restore--nothing happens. Only workaround we could find was to make a restore script as a one-shot deal. This did work. What's the story? I assume you're talking about the Restore Assistant. Do you mean that when you click on the "Start Now" button, the restore is not carried out? Or do you mean you never see the "Start Now" button? If the latter, be aware that everything in Retro 8 takes much longer to carry out than Retro 6, and you don't receive the progress information that Retro 6 provides. If the above is not helpful, please give us a step-by-step detail of everything you did when attempting the restore.

Do you mean that when you click on the "Start Now" button, the restore is not carried out? Or do you mean you never see the "Start Now" button? If the above is not helpful, please give us a step-by-step detail of everything you did when attempting the restore. As I'm having a similar problem, let me chime in: I want to restore from a media set to a new blank volume. I click "Restore" in the Retrospect toolbar and get the Restore Assistant. I'm asked what kind of restoration I want: restore an entire source volume (yes), restore selected files (no), or search for files (no). But it doesn't matter which of these three I pick: when I click "Continue," I'm asked to "Select a point-in-time backup from which to restore," but the list is empty. Clicking the "More Backups..." button does nothing visible at all. I can't proceed past this screen so I can't perform any kind of immediate restore. When I try to make a script to do an immediate backup, I have the same problem: the "Backups" tab is supposed to display a list of previous backups, but it's empty. My activity list is chock full of local and networked backups, but none of them are visible when I try to restore. This obviously makes having backed up not very reassuring! (I also can't quite figure out how to restore to a new blank volume -- I only get the option to restore to destinations that are also sources, and if I add a new source, it wants to make a disk or file backup set. It's not nearly as clear as in Retrospect 6.x as to how to restore an entire volume, but it might be clearer if it would actually let me select a backup as the source and therefore proceed with a restoration... 15cf96b7-500d-4e06-94a0-511212b12c96
We recently upgraded to Retrospect 8.2 and we're having a similar problem, using the following steps: Click 'Restore' Select 'Search for files in seleceted media sets' <doesn't really matter which option I choose the results the same> Enter filename and select a media set (all of which appear locked, I assume this is due to pw protection) Select where I want files recovered to Next: 'Restore files from which backups?', the window is empty - no list of choices!? The same as mdeatherage, I too have a list of backups in the Activity list with none available for Restore
f30e6e60-a263-4d69-8f60-c92703669308
Have you tried restarting the Engine, then unlocking the Media Set(s) you need, before attempting the Restore? There is definitely something squirrely happening with locked Media Sets, but an Engine restart seemed to bring back the restore lists in my brief tests.
