What do I need to backup just one OSX server?

Recommended Posts

We have a 6-person workgroup, keeping all our documents in one directory on an OSX Server. I just want to incrementally back up the data directory each night to a firewire hard drive locked in a cabinet a few feet away. I don't need to backup any clients over the network. I thought I'd just run Retrospect on the server, from one hard disk to another on the same machine. To do this simple thing I need to buy the whole Workgroup or perhaps Server version?

I'm assuming the less expensive versions really are "fixed" so they won't run under OSX Server??

You need Retrospect 5 Workgroup to back up a Mac OS X Server. It comes with 20 clients. It runs under OS X Server, OS X, and OS 9. That should be sufficient. The Express version won't work on OS X Server because it's a server, but it will work under just plain Mac OS X.
