guruuno
Sorry for the cross post, but the non-replies to the 1st elsewhere leave me no option. Have a client (customer) running v6.5. All patches, upgrades, etc installed. Windows 2000 SP4, 1Gb ram. Sony SDX-420C USB AIT tape drive, SDX1-35C tapes Whomever installed/setup never verified anything, and now that I'm involved, I discovered no backups ever took place. I try to, and get "couldn't erase tape, error -100 (device rejected command)" I've tried everything, to no avail. I even took tape drive home, installed on my XP (SP2) PC with V 7 and same issue. Any ideas why this error is happening?? I cannot use any of the 7 tapes I have, all new, and even tried some old ones, same issue.
natew
Hi Have you tried installing ASPI using the aspiinst.exe utility located in the Retrospect program folder? Afterward the configure->devices->environment tab in Retrospect should say "Devices visible using ASPI". Does the device function properly using the built in Windows NT backup utility? Thanks Nate
guruuno
OK, Installed ASPI, old and new, see tape drive before doing so, via Device Manager, as well as from Retrospect. After installing ASPI and rebooting, no difference, same error. Cannot see tape drive from NT Backup before or after ASPI installation. As per, "Afterward the configure->devices->environment tab in Retrospect should say "Devices visible using ASPI", it sees the tape drive, and at the top says, "DEVICES VISIBLE USING NT PASSTHROUGH". not what you specify (Devices visible using ASPI). Again, I tried 2 different PC's, no avail, what may I be missing. Thank you.
natew
Hi NT backup couldn't see the tape drive at all? If that is the case you may have a bad drive. Is the driver loaded in windows device manager? In regard to ASPI, Retrospect 6.5 will automatically use it if it is available. In Retrospect 7 you have to enable ASPI in the media handling preferences. Thanks Nate
guruuno
I think the problem here is that you keep referencing ASPI, and ASPI is for SCSI, NOT USB!! This is a Lacie/USB 2.0 Sony SDX-420C AIT tape drive
natew
Hi ASPI is for all devices, SCSI, USB ,FW and IDE. In many cases USB and IDE devices will not work at all using the built in NT SCSI passthrough communication method. Thanks Nate
