twalz68225
WHen I try to create a disaster recovery CD, I get a message saying the snapshot selected can't start a Windows computer, please select a Snapshot of a Windows startup volume and try again. The drive I backed up is, in fact, my boot disk. It was recently added as an additional drive and made the boot disk at the same time. It is the master and my old hard drive is the slave. I know there are issues with using disaster recovery with XP SP2, but I can't even get past the first screen. I have been using Retrospect for several years, and I have been able to create the DR disk in the past. Anyone have any ideas? TIA
natew
Hi Run another normal backup of your C drive and then use the new snapshot to create the disaster recovery disc. Thanks nate
twalz68225
I tried doing another normal backup of the C drive creating a file on the old hard drive. When I point to that snapshot, I get the same issue. Does it matter whether I'm backing up to a file or CDs? I wouldn't think so....
natew
Hi The error message you are seeing appears because the snapshot does not contain the Windows registry. Are you backing up the entire C drive including all files in the Windows directory? Thanks nate
twalz68225
I'm telling it to back up all files except cache files. That's the way I've always done backups. I don't think it is recognizing that it is the startup disk. When I look at the properties of the snapshot, it does not indicate startup disk, just a volume. Is Retrospect 5.6.132 not able to create a DR disk under Windows XP? Thanks for your help, Nate.
natew
Hi That may have something to do with it. I know Retrospect 5.6 has not been tested with XP SP2. It might be time to consider an upgrade to Retrospect 7.0 Professional... Nate
twalz68225
Not having a DR disk is not that big of a deal. I've downloaded the trial and will test it out, but I don't see upgrading just to get the DR functionality. Thanks for your help.
