jonl711
I have a new IBM x226 with a IBM VXA-2 backup drive. NOS is Windows 2000. After installing Retrospect 6.5 on the server and setting up the backup sets the backup does not take place. The error message I get is "Can't find any tape storage device". I can see the device in Control Panel with no errors. I've downloaded the latest driver for Retrospect 6.5 and the drive is on the compatibility list as ok. So does anyone know how to fix this? Driving me crazy.
natew
Hi Disable the drivers for the device in the Windows device manager. Retrospect has its own drivers. Windows drivers will just get in the way. Does the device show up in configure->devices->environment in Retrospect? Thanks nate
jonl711
The driver is now showing up, but the backup still does not take place. What I need is a 2 week rotation Mon-Fri using 10 tapes. So I've setup the system with week-1 and week-2 Mon-Fri. When I went to check on it last night, the backup had started but did not back up over the test tape I had done earlier in the day. It did not overwrite the tape with the new name as expected. In the Preference section there is an option to recycle or normal, am I supposed to select the recycle? It seems if you recycle you wipe out the entire backup set, so I selected normal. But normal is an append setting. what we want to for the backup to overwrite the tape each time it's used for a backup. Thanks
natew
Hi Quote: what we want to for the backup to overwrite the tape each time it's used for a backup. So you want to do a full backup to one tape each day, right? That means you need 10 different backup sets. Every day should be a recycle backup. It is very important that the user stick to the tape rotation schedule. If the wrong tape is in the drive on any given day the backup will not run.
