steveglevin
Hi, Firstly, apologies for cross posting, but I'm not sure which forum this should be posted in...! I'm having a problem with a new installation of Retrospect whereby I can't seem to schedule scripts to run in either AM or PM. When I choose a time it only says the number and I can't specify AM or PM or in 24 hours. This means that I need a script to start at 3pm but it keeps starting at 3am... I have tried to restrict the running time of script in the schedule scripts preference but this doesn't seem to affect anything. I am running the latest version of Retrospect Backup v6 as downloaded from the Dantz site and my Mac is running Tiger (latest release). Anyone, any ideas...? Grateful for any help that can be given... Thanks in advance, Steve Levin.
natew
Hi When you create a schedule the time should be listed with AM/PM on the right next to the time. If you click the AM/PM button once some arrows should show up to let you toggle the setting. Do you have the same problem if you create a new script and schedule? What other programs do you have installed on this machine? Thanks Nate
steveglevin
Hi, Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I don't get the option for AM or PM next to the time and when I try to use a 24 format it just ignores what I type, for example... Say I want 1pm so I type 13 in the hour box, when I type the 1 it shows 01 then I type the 3 straight after, it then changes to 03, I just cant type any number greater than 12. It just looks like Retrospect thinks the AM/PM selector is there when it's not! I'm running a standard eMac with the latest version of Tiger with latest Security patches. IT has Quark, Adobe Creative Studio, MS Office and thats about it. The only 'system level' tweak is the installation of Stuffit Deluxe 9.0. There is no virus or Norton crap so it shouldn't be anything like this. I have attached some links to screen grabs below to show the various views of my system showing what a script scheduler looks like in Retrospect along with the views of my preferences in OS X. Scheduler View Scheduler Preferences International Pref Pane Date & Time Pref Pane I have tried contacting tech support at Dantz, but they only give free support for 30 after purchase. It is now after that even though this is the first time I'm using the software as it took so long to get everything set-up properly...! How unfair is that!!! Anyway, if anyone has any more ideas on this strange one, I'd be glad to here them... Thanks again in advance, Steve.
Mayoff
I see that in the Mac OS, you have selected the option to use 24 hour time and display AM/PM. I wonder if this is causing a conflict of some kind. The screenshots are helpful. We will investigate internally.
steveglevin
To be honest, this is one of the things I have been trying, it was originally not set to use 24 hour, but I turned it on to see if that was stopping me specifying a 24 hour format. I had wrongly just assumeed this was the problem and that Retrospect only now allowed entering times in 24 hour format hence no AM/PM selector... Alas, I was wrong... Please keep me informed, appreciate your help on this. Thanks Steve.
waltr
Hi Steve, I set my International pref pane similarly to yours and my scheduler looks very similar but I am able to specify 24 hour time. You indicate that you cannot type the numbers in, but you do not say that you've tried using the up/down arrows. Try this please. You will forgive me if you have done this already, but since I can't see what you are doing I need to ask all questions. If this does not work I would suspect that the preferences could be corrupt. Make sure you have your license code before you do this next step. You can take a screenshot of 'Special->Licenses' if you do not have the number written down. Quit Retrospect if it is open. Open up the boot volume and go to /Library/Preferences and pull the Retrospect folder out (say to the desktop) and then open up Retrospect. It should ask for the License, and all that good stuff. Try to set up a new script from that point and see if it helps. If it does work, you throw the preferences out. If it does not, and you have preferences you want back, you can always replace the current ones (after quitting Retrospect) with the ones we pulled. Hope that helps. steveglevin
I will do this and let you know what happens! I'm off for a few days now but will come back to you all later in the week... Does sound like a strange one doesn't it...? Thanks Steve. steveglevin
Right, Tried this but still no luck... Everything is as before, no option to choose am/pm and when i use the arrows, it counts up to 12 then goes to 1 again... I'm just about all out of ideas... PLease let me know if anyone thinks of anything else... It must be a Tiger thing but I have no way to check... Steve.
waltr
Hi Steve, So you've pulled the preferences? You don't indicate that you did that. If you did that and are still having this problem, can you install Retrospect on another computer? I'm wondering if you will see the same issue on another machine. I'm thinking it could be a Tiger thing also, but have not seen this issue before. Could it be a bug in the localized version of Tiger? I realize you are running it with an international region, which is one thing I don't see every day. It would be interesting to see if the problem exists on another computer with the same OS. steveglevin
Sorry, yes pulled the prefs and re-entered the licence code etc. but didn't have any effect. I can install on another computer but they are all running Panther and it will probably be OK on them. Thing is the tape drive is connected to the Tiger machine as this is the one we use for server and backup stuff. I'll have to find another machine with an International English Tiger on and install it on there... I'll let you know how I get on... Steve.
