jlundwall
Hi all, We just got a Buffalo TeraStation to hold our growing backups. However, I can't get Retrospect to connect to the share I created on it. I can get to the share just fine through windows and have successfully used Windows Backup to create file on the share. When I try to create a backup set with Retrospect it won't connect to the mapped drive, giving a "local device name already in use" error. When I type the path in manually it gives me "Backup Set file location invalid". Anyone else run into similar problems?
RonaldL
What operating system and what version of Retrospect are you running?
jlundwall
Retrospect version 6.5.336 running on a Windows 2000 server
RonaldL
Try updating to 6.5.350 with RDU 5.4.110. You can download both from http://www.dantz.com/updates . Does this device require any special software to access it or can you get right to it by typing \\COMPUTERNAME\sharename into run?
jlundwall
Ok, I did the updates and still no dice. However, I think that the problem is folder permission related and not retrospect. Thanks for following up though.
jlundwall
I figured it out. Apparently RetroSpect has to authenticate to the share seperately. I added the TeraStation share as a Volume, entered the credentials, and now all's well. It still gives me the "Local Device Name Already In Use" message, but it accepts the path.
