Safely Remove Hardware ... at the end of backup

Just recently after a backup, I go to 'Safely Remove Hardware' and I get a message

Problem Ejecting USB Mass Storage Device ... The device "Generic volumne' cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later.

 

I try and try and no luck. Control-Alt-Delete = Windows Task Manager doesn't show the application running. I do see WDBtnMgr.exe in Processes though.

 

Your help will be appreciated.

if you mean by going back into Retrospect and then trying again, yes, I've tried this. I have also tried multiple times to stop the program from the 'Safely Remove Hardware' dialog window. The Button Manager has an icon showing too
