gavoz
Hi all, I'm working with Retrospect 6.5.350 Single Server since months but I don't understand how the System state is being backed up. As far as I know it's not possible like all other program to backup only System State (NTBackup do it...) but it's necessary to backp the System partition (i.e. C:). Is it right? I scheduled a backup of C: partition (Domain Controller with AD) activating the System state backup in the preferences of this scheduled job. Backup run succesfull with no error but how can I restore only System State (registry, certificate, com+ , AD ntds DBe etc...? Please help, Thanks, - Andrea
natew
Hi The registry/ active directory is backed up every time you select the root of the system drive for backup AND the system folder is selected for backup. Long story short - it is backed up every time you backup the C drive. You can verify the registry components included in each backup by looking at the snapshot properties of your backup set. To restore just the registry/active directory do a "replace corresponding files restore to the root of the C drive. Select one or more files in the system directory for restore. Any file will do. After that the registry and only that one file will be restored to the system leaving all other files in place. Thanks Nate
gavoz
It doesn't work... I create a "job" to backup only "C:\WINDOWS\" with the option "System State Backup" active in the Options for this job. The backup start and backup all of files (about 2,5Gb) with some error but it's normal. Now how can I restore only System State, for example only the registry files originally located in "C:\WINDOWS\System32\config" in another place? Is it possible? I try all the way but the C:\WINDOWS\System32\config directory is empty. Thanks, - Andrea
natew
Hi This is normal. Retrospect backs up the registry and active directory using Microsoft APIs. It does not back them up as regular files like you would normally see in the C:\WINDOWS\System32\config directory. Go to configure->backup sets in Retrospect and look at properties for your backup set. Then go to snapshots and look at the properties for the snapshot. You will see the registry components that were backed up there. Thanks nate
