shankle
Just purchased a new Dell gx280. It has a Phillips DVD/RW. I think DVD 8631? As of now I have no backup. The Phillips drive is not recognized by Retrospect Express 6.5. I don't think 7.0 would solve the problem either. I tried to customize the drive but that didn't work either. Is there any chance of Dantz recognizing the drive in the very near future????? Regards, JPS
jabaim
Having the same problem with Retrospect 7.0, too. DVD8631 is not natively supported, and am unable to create a custom driver using the Wizard. System is Windows XP, SP2. Anyone with suggestions? Dantz team? michaeln
Hi, Apologies for the delay. Currently, there is no support for this drive. We have put in a request for this drive for certification but unfortunately there is no specific timetable for when this will be available. You can sign up on the RDU notify list to be notified of driver releases and what drives they support: http://list.dantz.com/mailman/listinfo/rdu_announcement
sponnath
I have the same problem with my laptop. I have a Panasonic UJ811b. It will never be supported. I gave up on that. You will have to fit the product, not the other way around. I am currently looking into the USB attached Plextors but they haven't listed support for the newer unit yet. What's funny is that Retrospect is included in the box by the vendor but it's not on the supported list here. I would like to laugh but it's not funny when you are trying to get a usable backup on DVD. right now I am relying on multiple hard drive backups. shankle
After much agony I found the Dantz tut called "How to Auto Configure a CD-RW Device". I followed the instructions and configured the drive for a DVD. It seemed to work fine doing a backup until I got 149 errors. Here is a sampling: Trouble positioning: "Backup" (11777), error -206 (drive reported a failure: Dirty heads, bad media, etc.) Trouble positioning: "BackUp" (11777), error -206 (drive reported a failure: Dirty heads, bad media, etc) Additional error information for Device "Philips DVD+-RW - rdi" [0:0] Sense > 700003000000001200000000110000000000 (Philips | DVD+-RW DVD8631 | CD21) I'm thinking now to do the Tut only for a CD/RW and see how that will work. Also there is a problem with Recovery if the Disaster recovery disk is for a CD and the Data Disk is for a DVD!!!!! Thanks for any help, JPS
